So you’ve decided to ride the wave of trendy smoker’s fashion and buy yourself an arc lighter. Who wouldn’t? Those things are freaking cool. It’s like putting a mini-taser to the point of your cigarette and jolting it into action. It’s practical science. James Dean would have had at least a dozen of them and Bill Nye probably owns stock in these things. Let’s not digress too far, and just agree that these are the best thing to happen to traditional cigarette smokers since menthol.
The problem now is figuring out which one to purchase. A quick internet search will bring up more arc lighter reviews than you know what to do with. It’s just a matter of figuring out what features are most important to you. To help with that, here is a brief list of just some attributes you’ll want to think about when picking out your newest gadget.
1. Single or Dual Arc
The chances that you’ll need the extra power of a second arc are slim. But the price between each is negligible. It’s just a matter of aesthetics. Are you the type that wants that “X” of electricity, or can you get by with just the one line?
2. Number of Lights Per Charge
The cheapest arc lighters boast that they can light up to five packs of cigarettes on a single charge. That’s some serious battery power. But if you’re the forgetful type, and think it may become an issue remembering to plug in your lighter, maybe you should spring for one of the more expensive ones that claim to light a carton or more.
3. Price Point
These things range in price from $5 to $105. It’s all about what you’re willing to spend in order to get the same effect. The cheaper ones have the same effect; they just aren’t made of solid gold or come with a lifetime warranty like the more expensive lighters.
4. Safety Features
You won’t be rolling your thumb along a wick to light a flame anymore. Arc lighters turn on at the push of a button. You’re going to want to make sure your lighter has something to prevent you from accidentally pressing that button and setting your pants on fire.
Are you the type that likes a plain old matte black? Or are you a little funkier and want a fierce tiger? These things come with all manner of design. They are as diverse as any other type of cigarette lighter. You just have to find that one that is as unique as you are.
Once you’ve decided those few things, it’s just a matter of waiting for your lighter to arrive. Don’t throw away your backup lighters though. We all know how other smokers tend to appropriate lighters from each other. Keep your disposable lighters to pawn off on friends when they need to bum a light and you aren’t able to keep an eye on their sticky fingers. Make no mistake, your arc lighter will be a hot commodity.
